Research Project Ended but stay tuned…
UPDATE 4/2021: The free therapy provided as part of research ended for now. Once things open up after COVID, we hope to continue offering this service to the community. EMDR was provided in an in-person group setting.
- How I can help now: Email Margaret at support@drdixonpsych.com if you would like to get on our list for future EMDR groups.
REVIEW:
Starting July 29, 2019, we began the free EMDR therapy in a group setting as part of research project. The goal of the research is to increase access to effective therapy and to reduce PTSD symptoms with EMDR in a group setting.
This week was our last week and some of us met to debrief and talk about the experience. Participants will mail in their final post test of symptoms soon.
Background of current research and free therapy offering: On February 12th, 2019, I did a live demonstration of EMDR for 25 people, many from the PTSD group that meets twice monthly at the Douglas County Community Center and a number of mental health and health care providers who were interested in helping others and learning more about EMDR. Then, starting on April 22nd, we held two orientations and consent signing at the Social Services building in Gardnerville, NV. The group of volunteers were very patient as we awaited final approval from the University.
