I was first exposed to EMDR by my psychiatrist father. He was excited about the results he was seeing and showed me how to use the technique in the early '90s. Later, I was formally trained by the inspiring woman in the video below.
I have been using EMDR techniques with individuals, couples and love the result. With a doctoral student I was the therapist in a research group that showed improvement in PTSD symptoms.
My EMDR trainer demonstrating in this inspiring video
EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress. I use it to address a wide range of challenges:
EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.
It has a set of standardized protocols that incorporate elements from many different treatment approaches and therefore I find I use elements of my EMDR training in nearly every session.
The link explains the process in great detail but as many have said, it is hard to describe unless you have experienced it.
